Volunteer Winter Meeting: Happy Hour
Thursday, March 2nd 5pm
All interested in Volunteering at CBEC are encouraged to attend this informational meeting. Courtney Leigh, Volunteer and Adult Education Coordinator, will describe volunteer opportunities, incentives, trainings, and offer up tips on how to become an effective volunteer.
Come and mingle with like minded individuals.
Guided Hikes
Thursday, March 2nd 1pm
General Property Tour
Join us for a guided hike on CBEC’s Lake Trail for this unique opportunity to discover some of the natural features and treasures found on our property. A docent will lead participants on a journey to explore topics of Hummock Succession, Oyster Reef Ecology, Salt Marsh Plants, Lake Knapp Bird Residents, and Resident Raptors all while walking a 1.5 mile flat path around the center of our 510 acre peninsula. There is a half-way rest stop with restroom accessibility. Participants are encouraged to dress for weather and bring along a water bottle, small snack, and binoculars. Duration is approximately 2 hours. Trips are subject to cancellation due to weather or low enrollment. Check-in and hike begin at the Visitor Center.
Cost is FREE to CBEC Members, $5 for Non Members
Pre-Registration is required as there is a minimum and maximum for this trip.

Introduction to Birding: Migration, Passerines, The Art of Pishing
Join us for a short Introduction to Birding before we take to the trails to practice our new skills in identifying some of the migratory Passerines that may be stopping through CBEC’s property. Our team of Certified Interpretative Guides and Maryland Master Naturalists along with local expert Birders will help the novice Birder become more equipped as they advance on their Birding Journey. Participants are encouraged to dress for weather and bring along a water bottle, small snack, Bird Field Guides to the Passerine’s, and binoculars. Duration is approximately 2 hours. Trips are subject to cancellation due to weather or low enrollment. Check-in and hike begin at the Visitor Center.

Speaker: Tuck Hines
Dr. Anson “Tuck” Hines, Director of the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center on the Rhode River, is a world-renowned expert on Chesapeake Blue Crabs. We all love to feast on them, and have probably caught them, but what else do we know about this iconic Bay critter? Come to this presentation and learn about the fascinating life history of our “Jimmies” and “Sooks”.
