Volunteers Needed: Invasive Plant Removal Workdays at Bacon Ridge Natural Area Continuing through June
Upcoming dates (9 am to noon): Thursday, May 26; Saturday, May 28; Thursday, June 2; and Saturday, June 4
Scenic Rivers Land Trust has had some AWESOME volunteers join us on the trails at Bacon Ridge Natural Area in Crownsville, MD, this season, but WE NEED MORE HELP!
The second season of our Invasive Species Control Program at Bacon Ridge Natural Area is well underway and will continue through the end of June.
Since early May, Scenic Rivers staff have been gathering for weekly workdays with small groups of volunteers to remove invasive plant species along the trails of Bacon Ridge Natural Area.
We’re excited to be continuing this important work to protect the health of one of the largest contiguous tracts of forest in Anne Arundel County.
How to Help
Scenic Rivers is seeking volunteers to assist us in our weekly workdays which are being held on Thursday and Saturday mornings from 9 am to noon. Workdays have already started and will run through the end of June.
Volunteers are working on designated trail sections to remove specified invasive plant species.
Volunteers will be trained in how to identify and remove these plant species. No experience necessary!
To participate, volunteers must:
- Be 16 years or older (volunteers age 12+ can participate if accompanied by an adult);
- Bring their own work gloves. Sturdy, leather work gloves are recommended; and
- Be able to hike up to 2 miles to get to designated work areas.
Volunteers may sign up for as many weekly workdays as they are available. Teams and group signups are encouraged!
Controlling invasive species infestations is a big job and we’ll be happy to have as much help as possible!
