Anne Arundel Watershed Stewards Academy and Empowering Believers Church seek designs for stormwater green infrastructure practices and removal of impervious surfaces to reduce flood impacts on Church property in Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County. Designs will include BMPs such as a rain garden, submerged gravel wetland, grass swales, cisterns, native trees, permeable parking, and removal of impervious surfaces. The church currently experiences frequent, widespread, and persistent flooding due to low elevation, a lack of municipal stormwater infrastructure, community development, and more intense precipitation events. The church campus consists of 2.2 acres of low-lying land, 40% of which is developed.
Flood mitigation practices that were implemented in 2015 have not been sufficient in reducing flood impacts. Green infrastructure needs were identified as part of the technical assistance offered through the Community-Based Organization Capacity-Building Initiative funded through Chesapeake Bay Trust. Bids are due 11/17/23.
