Are you looking for a great way to get involved in your community? Pickering Creek Audubon Center invites you to attend a Volunteer Open House at the Center on Monday, October 1 between 4-6:30pm. Tour the Center by wagon ride, learn more volunteering at Harvest Hoedown, Pickering Creeks annual community open house festival and explore other ways you can lend nature at hand at the Center throughout the year.

An overview of the Center’s volunteering program and additional detail about Harvest Hoedown in particular will be presented at 4:30 PM and at 6 PM. Before or after the presentations, you have time to learn more about specific opportunities that match your skills and interests from staff and experienced volunteers.

Harvest Hoedown on Sunday, October 14, is the perfect time start to volunteering at Pickering Creek Audubon Center.  Last year more than 70 volunteers greeted visitors approximately 1,200 visitors, assisted with parking, helped at display tables and more during this day long event. There will be live music, food, interesting exhibits, a marketplace and craftsmen’s demonstrations and other special activities. There will also be Pickering-specific nature-based activities including several exhibits, a scavenger hunt along our Farm to Bay trail and a ‘nature shorts’ program series.

Whether your interests include education and outreach at community events, participating in habitat restoration, bird monitoring, or a variety of other indoor and outdoor tasks, there’s something at Pickering Creek for you! Please RSVP for the volunteer open house by emailing Samantha Pitts at spitts@audubon.org or calling the office at 410-822-4903 by Tuesday, September 25.
