Scope of Presentation
Jay will discuss Smith and Tangier Islands, the two inhabited islands of the Chesapeake Bay, with an emphasis upon the history and landscapes that have made these islands unique. He will also touch up on the traditions of the island inhabitants, their way of life – including the foods that are unique to the islands, and the future of the islands.
About the Presenter
Jay is well known for his exquisite photography work covering the Chesapeake Bay and its seafood industry. He has worked with the National Park Service to photograph Cutthroat trout in Yellowstone National Park. These photographs were published by National Geographic. His work has also appeared in a variety of publications including National Fisherman, Wooden Boat, Chesapeake Bay Magazine, and Delaware Beach Life. His first book, Working the Water, documents the Chesapeake Bay and the immense diversity of its seafood industry. His current project focuses on Smith and Tangier Islands and the cultural lifeways of those islands.
