Lower Shore Invasive Species Coordinator

The Lower Shore Land Trust (LSLT; lowershorelandtrust.org) and the Wicomico County, MD, Natural Resources Conservation Advisory Committee (NRCAC) seek to hire a full-time coordinator to manage the Lower Shore Invasive Species Initiative. This is a 1-year contractual position with the potential for extension.

The objectives of the full-time position include:
• Connect with regional partners to formally establish the Lower Eastern Shore- Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (LES-PRISM);
• Author, with input from partners, a strategic plan for a regional invasive species initiative;
• Oversee the implementation of restoration projects in Wicomico County by working with County staff and managing contractors;
• Develop and implement training for county employees, as well as create a module that can be adapted to train non-profit volunteers, landowners, and the general public;
• Produce a tool kit for County employees including fact sheets on invasive species identification, importance of managing invasive species, invasive species management, and site restoration;
• Identify and apply for additional funding sources for restoration projects and ongoing outreach and education;
• Generate informational signs and other materials for each project and communicate with local media to generate public awareness;
• Establish a GIS-based monitoring and response program for the Lower Eastern Shore, including identifying best practices for data collection and management;
• Organize volunteer events, including training for invasive species ID and mapping, and workdays for removal and restoration;
• Research and catalog current information on Best Management Practices (BMPs) for invasive species control, including cost and effectiveness data;
• Collect data on staff and volunteer time, restoration projects, number of plantings, and other relevant information;
• Create informative press releases for website/social media and traditional media outlets to inform the public about ongoing projects, general information regarding invasive species; upcoming events and workshops, and relevant LES-PRISM partner activities

Preferred Skills include:
Background in environmental outreach and education
Background in invasive species, preference to experience in forestry or habitat management
Ability to communicate effectively, multitask, and prioritize tasks
Self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic
Familiarity with GIS
Grant writing or other fundraising experience
Computer Literacy and proficient with Microsoft Suite
Familiar with social media and website development
Experience and comfort working with government and elected officials
