The Virginia Soil Health Coalition seeks to hire a Research Associate to assist in developing and implementing a strategy to rapidly accelerate support for the adoption of land management practices that improve the health of the soil and generate environmental and economic benefits. Incumbent is expected to expand the number of organizations participating in Coalition activities throughout the three year grant period (2020 – 2023), creatively generate more resources and programs to support improving soil health, and support fundraising efforts. Provide support for program design and implementation alongside partners, conduct regular quarterly stakeholder meetings, strategy work group discussions, committee meetings and participate in partner events such as field days, demonstrations and conferences. The work location will be Richmond/Southeast Virginia area. The supervisor for this position is Dr. Rory Maguire, School of Plant and Environmental Sciences at Virginia Tech.
Required Qualifications
Advanced degree in Environmental science or closely related field or bachelor’s degree with significant relevant experience and training. Demonstrated excellent communication skills including public speaking. Experience with strategic and creative thinking and being solutions-oriented. Attention to detail, well organized and self-motivated individual. Proven experience with coalition coordination and facilitation is required. Ability to travel regularly throughout Virginia and occasional regional travel outside of Virginia.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity and experience with Virginia agriculture and/or conservation. Fundraising experience.
