The Town Council of Front Royal is responsible for destroying a vital riparian buffer and trout habitat along Happy Creek. They’re clear cutting and uprooting hundreds of native trees and razing the creek bed and banks – in a zone where occasional rising waters were effectively and naturally managed by the riparian buffer.
Help us show them – and any others who might consider such projects – that our community cares about its watershed! Join us for a socially distanced demonstration this Saturday. Or support the initiative by expressing your outrage directly through letters, calls or emails to the Council or to the Warren County Board of Supervisors.
This event will enforce the most recent guidelines from Virginia Governor Ralph Northam in order to protect participants from COVID-19 infection. We will gather in groups of no more than 25 people, remaining at least 6 feet from each other while wearing face coverings.
Save Happy Creek is organized by environmental partners Alliance for the Shenandoah Valley, Beautification of Front Royal Committee, Friends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River, Front Royal/Warren County Appalachian Trail Community, Front Royal Warren County Tree Stewards, Izaak Walton League, Shenandoah Riverkeeper, and Sustainability Matters.
