The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and Choose Clean Water Coalition are hosting a buffer planting at a dairy farm outside of Lancaster. We’ll start the day joined by Pennsylvania state legislators to learn about the BMPs on the farm and the need for increased conservation funding to help farmers install more of these essential practices. PennFuture will facilitate some brief remarks and we’ll kick off the planting at 9:30. Lunch will be provided, as well as water and snacks throughout the day.
Volunteers should bring a mask, boots or other appropriate footwear, work gloves if you have them, and rain gear in case of inclement weather. The event is rain or shine unless weather is severe. Volunteers should practice social distancing and both hand sanitizer and a hand washing station will be provided. Tools will be bleached before the planting and volunteers will use the same tool throughout the day to reduce secondary surface contact.
The planting is anticipated to last until 4 p.m., dependent on the number of volunteers. Carpooling is encouraged to minimize the number of cars at the farm, we’ll share more information about a park and ride option in the coming weeks.
If you have any questions about this event, please email me or Kristin Reilly (reillyk@nwf.org). We look forward to seeing many of you in person on October 13th!
