The Chesapeake and Coastal Service works within the Department of Natural Resources to provide leadership in the restoration and protection of Maryland’s coastal resources and to establish a safe and sustainable coast that will protect our communities, infrastructure and critical habitats for generations to come. We are currently hiring three (3) Natural Resource Planners:
(1) Coastal Climate Coordinator – this position will serve as a coastal climate coordinator to advance the state adaptation goals by providing coordination, planning and oversight for statewide, inter-departmental climate workgroups focused on reducing the risk of state investments to climate impacts and advancing overall climate adaptation. This position will provide coordination with sister agencies, local and federal government agencies, universities and non-governmental organizations to implement the objectives of both the Coast Smart Council and Maryland Commission on Climate Change’s Adaptation and Resiliency Working Group (ARWG).
(2) Coastal Planning and Training – this position will develop and advance coastal training programs and guide planning and project work that will help to translate data, tools, and science into decision making and plan development. The position will work closely with place-based programs such as the National Estuarine Research Reserve, Mallows Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and local communities to identify needs and support opportunities to integrate resilience, restoration, and other coastal management issues into training and long-term planning goals.
(3) Conservation Resilience – this position will lead conservation resilience initiatives for coastal land conservation, public access, and recreation planning. The position will work across the Department to lead coastal resilience strategies for conservation planning efforts, provide guidance on climate adaptation options for parcel evaluations, and develop public land site plans to enhance resilience to climate change.
