Job Summary
This position (Job ID #20737) serves as an Environmental Protection Specialist in the Natural Resources Administration, Watershed Protection Division, Restoration Branch. The mission of the Watershed Protection Division is to conserve the soil and water resources of the District of Columbia and protect its watersheds from nonpoint source pollution.
The primary role of this position is to perform stormwater assessments and related duties in support of the operation of the RiverSmart Homes program. The position requires working with residential property owners while conducting stormwater assessments, explaining techniques to control non-point source pollution, effectively communicating the benefits of lot-level stormwater practices, assessing properties and suggesting the appropriate best management practice, entering information into a GIS-based tracking system, and coordinating with grantees and contractors to ensure that stormwater practices are installed appropriately.
Qualifications and Education
Preferred Experience: The ideal candidate should have an understanding of the causes of urban nonpoint source pollution and methodologies for stormwater treatment, and the ability to communicate and coordinate with a diverse group of partners, colleagues, and customers. Ability to use information technology, including geographic information systems (GIS) and Excel, and manage and track performance metrics and report on deliverables is important. The ideal candidate will have experience in public outreach and engagement, the ability to work with customers and government partners, and skills in effectively educating customers about stormwater pollution and ways the public can address it. Education, training, and/or experience in environmental management, conservation, ecology, or similar is preferred.

The work is performed in an office which is an adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated and in the field.

Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is covered under the collective bargaining unit represented by AFGE Local 2725 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee (dues) through direct payroll deduction.
