This year, the Carroll County Forestry Board (make a link/embedded) located in Westminster, Maryland received and judged 85 posters for the 2023 statewide Arbor Day Poster Contest. Fifth-grade artists created posters and they had to use the official theme of “Trees Are Terrific…and Cool our Communities!”
New this year in Carroll, is a community partnership between the local Forestry Board the Carroll County Arts Council. During Youth Art Month (YAM) celebrated at the Carroll Arts Center located at 91 West Main Street there is going to be a display of the winning tree posters.
On March 16th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, two Carroll County Forestry Board members are scheduled to attend a reception hosted by the Arts Center. For CCFB member and poster judge Geary Schwemmer who coordinated with the Arts Council, he “enjoys helping other people for the betterment of our planet.” The talent demonstrated by the youth artwork reflects the ways in which trees are terrific and cool our communities.
The collaboration between the Forestry Board and The Arts Council is a natural fit bringing together young artists and tree enthusiasts at the local level.
