We are seeking volunteers for Nature Escape: Mini-Camp the week of August 21-25, 2023, 9 am-12 pm. Nature Escape strives to engage children in a week full of morning activities, games, and crafts designed to disconnect children from their screens and connect them to nature. Nature Escape: Mini-Camp serves to both bridge the child-aged summer activity gap that exists after most camps have ended but before school starts as well as be an affordable camp-like experience for ALL families.
Volunteers will join a park ranger or naturalist to guide up to 10 children ages 7-9 through the Nature Escape program offering a blend of guided and unstructured nature experiences. Each day, the same program will occur simultaneously across several participating regional parks and natural areas in Anne Arundel county!
Ideally, volunteers commit to assisting with the program every day for that week from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm (including setup and breakdown for a total of 20 program volunteer hours). Nature Escape: Mini-Camp will be hosted at each of the following county parks: Quiet Waters Park, South River Farm Park, Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary, Fort Smallwood Park, and Lake Waterford Park. Volunteers and staff will be asked to attend a virtual orientation briefing on Wed Aug 2 12pm-1pm to review the program’s themes and optional curriculum for each day and are encouraged to visit their assigned park and partner ranger/staff member prior to the week of camp. Volunteers will need to pass a free background check prior to the start of the program.
Please fill out the brief survey below to indicate your interest in participating in this program!
