The Development and Marketing Manager is responsible for fundraising and marketing to support the Howard County Conservancy’s Youth Climate Institute program. This new and growing nationwide program educates and certifies the next generation of leaders on climate science, environmental justice and real-world solutions. The Marketing Manager writes grants and reports and develops social media posts, electronic news and website content. This position also interacts with and presents to teachers, students and community contacts to assist with outreach to new chapters and new partners. Occasional travel and evening and weekend hours required. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducts a full range of activities required to market the Youth Climate Institute nationwide.
  • Researches grant opportunities, interacts with funders and writes proposals.
  • Manages grant reporting including financial reporting.
  • Utilizes social media, e-news, website and promotional materials to support the mission of the organization and promote programs.
  • Manages CRM interface to support YCI customers.
  • Establish and assess program metrics.
  • Manages visual documentation and photo resources through our cloud system.
  • Develops engaging content in a variety of mediums.
  • Creates high quality flyers and promotional materials. 
  • Writes press releases and creates background materials.
  • Supports additional Conservancy fundraising and marketing efforts as needed.
  • Serves as an active member of the staff team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, environmental studies or other related fields.
  • Three or more years of experience.
  • Grant writing and social media experience required including samples of work.
  • An ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects/deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a variety of audiences and stakeholders including presentations to groups. 
  • Experience with G-Suite, Microsoft Office, WordPress, CRMs, Canva, Constant Contact.
  • Ability and willingness to come into our office at Belmont Manor and Historic Park in Elkridge with occasional meetings and events at our Woodstock office. 

Benefits include:

  • Salary range: $55,000 – $60,000

About the Howard County Conservancy

The Howard County Conservancy is a 32-year-old nonprofit nature center and land trust.  Our home base is the 232-acre Mt. Pleasant Farm in Woodstock, MD. We also operate a Nature Preschool at Belmont Manor and Historic Park in Elkridge, MD. Our grounds feature 5 miles of trails, native, pollinator and community gardens and the only historic farmstead open to the public in Howard County. We reach more than 30,000 people each year through our pre k-12th grade environmental education programs and a rich variety of programs for the community. To accomplish our work, the Conservancy employs 15 full time staff, 5 part time staff, seasonal staff, interns and a cadre of committed volunteers.
