Join the Environmental Justice Journalism Initiative (EJJI) for a Special Reel Rewards Event on July 20 (Saturday) from 3-6PM at Middle Branch Park! Stop by to learn about the Chesapeake Bay, the Reel Rewards Invasive Fish Bounty Program, and share your opinions about the environment.

Reel Rewards is an invasive fish bounty program that incentivizes fishers to catch and turn in invasive fish species caught in the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River. In addition to promoting the removal of invasive fish species, the program:

  • Compensates fishers for their environmental restoration work

  • Creates opportunities for outreach and education around invasive species and conservation

  • Supports scientific research on invasive species by donating the fish heads and/or bodies to researchers

We will also be conducting fishing surveys. All those who take a survey will receive a one-time $10 virtual visa gift card for supporting our research!  This event is free and open to the public. There will be free snacks and swag giveaways.

This event is in partnership with the Integration and Application Network at University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (IAN-UMCES), the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center – Chesapeake Water Watch (SERC-CWW), and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF).
