Purpose: American Rivers seeks cost proposals and confirmation of availability from contractors for construction services to remove the Cypress Branch Dam and associated site restoration.
Project location: The Cypress Branch Dam is located in Cypress Branch State Park in Kent County, Maryland. Coordinates for the site are 39.261420, -75.828350.
Background: Cypress Branch Dam is a breached earthen dam with a concrete and metal spillway that is nestled within a forested stretch of state park land. Removal of this dam will restore 18 mainstem and tributary miles of spawning habitat for migratory fish to promote sustainable populations of these native species, as well as remove a public safety hazard. American Rivers is managing the dam removal project in coordination with Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Project Design and Permitting Status: The project design, permits, and other important information are provided at the following link: https://tinyurl.com/CypressRFP. Most permits have been received for this project. An approval is pending for the railroad crossing access stabilization and the NPDES permit.
Timeframe: American Rivers will select a construction firm and provide notification of selection by Wednesday, October 30, 2024. We will issue a contract on or before November 13, 2024. Construction is expected to be conducted between November 2024 and February 2025.
Pre-Bid Meeting: American Rivers will provide a mandatory pre-bid meeting at the project site on Wednesday, October 9, at 11 am for the purpose of viewing site conditions and asking project-related questions.
