The Department of Biology and the Department of Environmental Science & Studies at Washington College invite applications for a joint tenure-track Assistant Professor starting in August 2025. Tenure expectations include teaching excellence, a pattern of productive scholarship leading to peer-reviewed publications, and effective participation in the shared governance of the College.

 

A typical course load consists of two lectures and two labs each semester during the academic year (3/3 load). This will include introductory and upper-level courses in both departments, as well as courses in the candidates area of expertise. Faculty are also expected to mentor senior thesis students, provide academic advising support, and contribute to department and college-wide service.

 

Qualifications:

  • Required
    • A Ph.D. in ecology (or a closely related field) with a focus on terrestrial ecology and an emphasis on how humans interact with the environment. PhD must be completed by the start of August 2025
    • Experience teaching lectures and/or labs at a college-level or comparable experience
    • Track record of successful research
    • Expertise that diversifies those of existing faculty in Biology and Environmental Science & Studies

 

  • Preferred
    • Experience developing lectures and labs
    • Track record of contributing service to previous institutions of employment, the greater scientific community, or your local/regional community
