Daniels Dam Removal Feasibility Study and Design

Purpose: American Rivers, in partnership with Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, is seeking proposals for a feasibility study and potential design of the Daniels Dam removal and associated restoration activities on the Patapsco River in Patapsco Valley State Park in Maryland.
Project location: The Daniels Dam is located in Patapsco Valley State Park Daniels Area in Ellicott City, Maryland. Coordinates for the site are 39.314681, -76.816115.
Background: The primary objectives of the project are to evaluate the feasibility of removing this dam, and potentially eliminate a public safety hazard and maintenance burden, re-establish fish passage and reconnect upstream habitat for aquatic species, and restore the stream channel such that it provides a more sustainable, functioning river channel through this reach. American Rivers is managing the project in coordination with Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (also the funder).
Timeframe: Proposals are due Friday, December 6, 2024. American Rivers will select an engineering firm and provide notification of selection by Friday, December 20, 2024. The project will begin in January 2025.
Pre-Bid Meeting: American Rivers will provide a mandatory pre-proposal meeting at Daniels Dam on Tuesday, November 19, at 10AM for the purpose of viewing site conditions and asking project-related questions.
