Share your wonder for the Maryland natural world with learners of all ages!
Attend our Volunteer Naturalist Open House event on Saturday, September 15 from 10am to 12pm at the McCann Wetlands Center (1361 Wrighton Rd Lothian MD 20711).
Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary is currently recruiting Volunteer Naturalists to lead our Classrooms in the Field outdoor field trip programs. Volunteer Naturalists assist with leading 2-4 hour education programs for students K-12 in the spring (March-May), summer (June – Aug), and fall (Sept-early Nov). Volunteer Naturalists choose the programs and age groups that most interest them and volunteer for a minimum of 2 programs a month (less in the summer). Volunteer Naturalists receive in-depth content and safety training by Sanctuary Staff Naturalists and shadow a field trip before leading groups on their own.
Additional benefits to becoming a Volunteer Naturalist include free admission to Jug Bay as an active volunteer, access to research opportunities not available to the general public (i.e. mist netting, SAV sampling, river otter spotlighting), and can receive professional development support from the Friends of Jug Bay to attend a workshop, course, or local conference each year. Volunteer Naturalists are also offered two, in-house trainings/professional development courses each year with themes centered around current research efforts at Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary.
If you are interested in joining the Jug Bay Volunteer Naturalist team, please join our Volunteer Naturalist Open House event (coffee and refreshments provided). To register for this free event, email programs@jugbay.org with your name, email address, and cell phone number or call 410-741-9330.
