Newly planted trees need support to survive. Let’s help young trees grow into healthy forests!
Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC) volunteers have planted 36,000+ native trees across the Gunpowder Watershed. However, our work isn’t done after the trees are planted in the ground. Young trees are vulnerable to deer browsing and competition with surrounding vegetation.
Tree maintenance is a hands-on way for volunteers to improve the health of our local forests and waterways. These events are also a great way to earn community service hours.
Tree maintenance involves:
- Removing invasive plants
- Checking planted trees to see if the shelter needs to be removed
- Making sure the tree is growing upright
