Join Rock Creek Conservancy and the National Park Service for a cleanup at the Carter Barron Amphitheater. We will remove debris, paint, clear leaf litter, weed, sweep, and trim back invasive plants, helping preserve the amphitheater while it awaits future restoration. This is a unique opportunity to get a “behind the scenes” look at the amphitheater and help take care of an important community resource. Register here. Registration will close at 5:00 PM the day before the event. Please register as soon as possible!

Upon its opening 1950 to its closure in 2017, the Carter Barron Amphitheater was a vital, inclusive venue for diverse performances, making arts and nature accessible to thousands. From jazz to Shakespeare, its legacy of affordable performances brought people together and introduced many to the beauty of Rock Creek Park. Structural issues closed the venue in 2017, however, plans are underway to restore the more-than-4,000-seat venue, preserving its historic elements while updating it for modern use. The revitalization will enhance the visitor experience with amenities like sound and light improvements, accessibility features, and updated facilities. Rock Creek Conservancy launched the Carter Barron Alliance to support this revitalization. This network of arts, parks, historic preservation, philanthropic, and community groups is dedicated to bringing the amphitheater back to life.
