Europa, the sixth largest moon in the Solar System is the smallest of the four Galilean moons (moons identified by Galileo) orbiting Jupiter, may be the most promising place in our solar system to find present-day environments suitable for some form of life beyond Earth. Planned for launch in October 2024, the Europa Clipper spacecraft is being developed to study Europa through a series of flybys while in orbit around Jupiter to investigate whether the icy moon could harbor conditions suitable for life. In this talk, Jackie Perry, Propulsion Module Harness Lead Engineer for the Europa Clipper spacecraft, will help us understand Europa and the Clipper project.
Jackie Perry is a Section Supervisor and Harness Engineer at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab (JHU APL) in Laurel. She specializes in the development of complex spacecraft system-level harnesses. She has worked on Parker Solar Probe, the Van Allen Probes and is currently the Propulsion Module Harness Lead Engineer for NASA’s Europa Clipper spacecraft, a joint partnership between JHU APL and the Jet Propulsion Lab. In this talk, she will speak of her work on Europa Clipper.
