The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC) is seeking volunteers to participate in a Trail Maintenance & Invasive Plant Removal event in Baltimore County this Sunday, October 21. Volunteers will be split into two groups:
- Trail Maintenance: Learn the proper techniques, such as rock armoring and rolling grade dips, to prevent sediment erosion and improve water quality.
- Invasive Plant Removal: Learn about common invasive plants that interfere with the health of our forests; methods for invasive plant removal; and then plant native species that benefit local wildlife.
Workshop eligible for community service learning hours. Registration deadline is Friday October 19. Appropriate for ages 12+.
Driving Directions: Gunpowder Falls State Park – Bunker Hill Road(Hereford, MD). From Towson, take I-83 North to Exit 27 (MD-137/Mt Carmel Road) toward Hereford. Turn right onto Mt Carmel Road and in 0.5 mile turn left onto York Road. Just past Hereford High School, turn left onto Bunker Hill Road. Park near York Road intersection on Bunker Hill Road and look for GVC Trail Maintenance sign.
What to bring: Remember to wear sturdy shoes, bring a hat, gloves, and clothes that can get dirty. Bring your own lunch and water. We will break for lunch around noon.
