Arterra is looking for a motivated and ambitious assistant landscape designer to help the landscape designer/owner design and manage the construction of projects including rain gardens, bayscaping and hardscaping at residential properties throughout the DC metro area.
This position requires a motivated candidate with strong communication and interpersonal skills, impeccable attention to detail, and interest in plants/landscape design/entrepreneurship.
Sense of humor and intellectual curiosity are key to success in this role. A candidate who is flexible, thinks strategically and is highly collaborative will thrive in this position. The assistant will work closely with other team members, partners, vendors and clients.
Excellent opportunity for a motivated candidate to expand their knowledge and skills in the landscape design/build and environmental industry. Blend of office and field position with crash course in sustainable landscaping practices.
Job Responsibilities
Assist landscape designer with landscape design of rain gardens, bayscaping, hardscaping, stormwater systems
Source high quality materials including trees, shrubs, perennial plants and stone from multiple vendors
Communicate with clients via email, phone and in person
Manage production schedule for projects
Coordinate with foreman of in house crew and subcontractors
Create social media postings
Help estimate, track and run projects
Field work includes laying out designs on installation days and assisting with installation
Requirements
2 – 5 Years of Experience
Excellent written, verbal and graphic communication skills
Attention to detail, sense of humor and positive energy
Reliable transportation, clean driving record
Intellectual curiosity and eagerness to learn
Landscape design skills
Strongly desired
SketchUp
Hand rendering skills
Experience with landscape design, social media, business, construction and/or horticulture
Degree in landscape design/architecture, business, environmental science, etc.
Photography/Videography skills
