A small and growing ecological restoration firm specializing in design and construction of watershed restoration projects seeks an experienced bookkeeper. The candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or business administration or equivalent business experience as well as knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles. Experience with construction accounting is highly preferred. Knowledge of Quickbooks accounting software is absolutely required; the ideal candidate will be very experienced with and knowledgeable of Quickbooks far beyond the basics (minimum 3 years is experience is preferred). Competence in Microsoft Word and Excel is required. The job requires sitting long periods of time and concentrating for long periods of time on financial operations. Applicants must be able to resolve issues quickly and with certainty and remain on top on of all the important financial functions of the company and report to the supervisor both on a regular basis and more often as the need arises. Excellent communication skills are required; candidates must be able to create financial reports and explain them both verbally and in writing. Candidates will be expected to present information at meetings and explain relevant financial facts to others in the company who may or may not have a financial background. The ability to work with different departments and to get along well with varied personalities is a must. The ability to work as a team is absolutely required. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in accounting for the construction industry, and/or experience working with billing and compliance for government contracts.

Responsibilities include:
– Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
– Prepare and send invoices in a timely manner
– Pay vendors and all other bills in a timely manner
– Make bank deposits
– Conduct a monthly reconciliation of every bank account
– Conduct a monthly reconciliation of every business credit card
– Conduct periodic reconciliations of all accounts to ensure their accuracy
– Maintain the petty cash fund
– Issue financial statements
– Provide information to the external accountant who creates the company’s financial statements
– Assemble information for external accountant for the annual audit
– Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
– Maintain the chart of accounts
– Process payroll in a timely manner and maintain employee changes in Quickbooks
– Provide clerical and administrative support to management as requested
– Maintain personnel files
– Tag and monitor fixed assets
– Assist in opening new vendor accounts
– Assist in bid process when it relates to accounting
– Be liaison for health insurance plan, 401(k) plan, liability insurance, and other related plans
– Assist owner with personal finances including personal bill payment and related tasks
