The Chesapeake Bay Foundation seeks a Seasonal Farm General Laborer at their Clagett Farm location in Upper Marlboro, MD. This position will last until mid-November.

CONTEXT OF THE POSITION

 

The seasonal farm labor position will include assisting with putting up hay, repairing barns and other farm buildings, maintaining the farm property generally which includes mowing and road maintenance. Also, there will be work assisting with the livestock, both sheep and cows; as well as maintaining pasture fences.  There will also be occasional work assisting with the vegetable operation.  Depending upon skills and experience there may be work using tractors and farm equipment.

 

Essential functions include:

 

Assist the Sustainable Agricultural Manager (SAM) with a variety of jobs on the farm.  Jobs will mostly involve manual labor and will often involve working with mechanical tools, such as mowers, chainsaw, weed eaters, and carpentry tools. Work will also include assisting with cattle and sheep.

 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

No experience is necessary, but we are looking for enthusiastic individuals who take joy in hard work, and who are committed to social justice and sustainable agriculture.  The successful candidate must possess the ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs and be able to work most Saturdays.  If you are thinking of applying at any point in the future, consider volunteering with us to familiarize yourself with the farm, and vice versa. Housing is not provided.
