Chesapeake Conservation and Climate Corps (CCC) Member needed to assist Maryland Environmental Trust (MET) with its mission to conserve and maintain Maryland’s natural, agricultural, scenic, and cultural resources for future generations, while also inspiring and engaging the public to take responsibility for the state’s natural resources. With a portfolio of more than 1,100 perpetual (permanent) conservation easements across the state, MET conducts regular site visits and engages its land trust partners to ensure eased lands remain protected, and provides direct assistance, information, and access to innovative tools to its partners and to landowners. MET works with property owners, local communities, and land trust partners to ensure ongoing stewardship and to encourage restoration and/or enhancement of conservation features of easement properties.
This year MET is one of the many potential host sites for the 2023-2024 Chesapeake Conservation and Climate Corps program. If successfully matched with MET, the Member will help maintain positive relationships with property owners and other conservation partner groups by providing resources in the form of direct on-the-ground project assistance, coordination and training of volunteer land stewards, and hosting of educational seminars for stewards and landowners on natural resource improvement programs. Assistance will also be provided to local land trust partners to build capacity for creating and organizing their own volunteer groups. The Member will be tasked with creating and conducting a behavioral survey of easement landowners to gauge their awareness of available resources, expectations of support, and drivers behind the donation or continued stewardship of their easements.
