The 6th Branch (T6B) is seeking an Executive Director. 

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for all aspects of T6B’s organizational functioning, including fulfillment of the operational mission, leading strategic growth initiatives, fundraising and development, and strategic partnerships. The Executive Director reports directly to T6B’s Board of Directors and is supported by a staff made up of full-time, part-time and service corps 

members. Strong candidates will have a service ethos and the leadership, organizational skills, and experience needed to manage a multi-faceted community development organization that specializes in urban environmental programming. 

Responsibilities

As the Executive Director (ED) of a small but impactful organization, you will wear many hats, managing the day-to-day operations while also helping to shape and drive the organization’s long-term vision. You will be hands-on in overseeing all aspects of the organization, from operations and budgeting to team management and external communications. At the same time, you’ll work closely with the board and staff to refine and execute the mission, ensuring growth, sustainability and alignment with our core values.   • Strategic Leadership: Provide T6B with overall leadership and ensure our organization lives up to service-oriented values that put our community partners up front. 
  • Development: Create development strategies, write and prepare grants and reporting, build corporate partnerships, conduct regular fundraising appeals, and oversee and execute all other aspects of fundraising. 
  • Financial and Business Management: Oversee all aspects of the organization’s finances, prioritizing transparently and accountability. Ensure all bookkeeping practices are consistent and up to date, conduct basic accounting, operate payroll systems, and ensure business and tax compliance. Manage day-to-day finances and 5-year budget to maximize mission impact while ensuring long-term organizational sustainability and success. 
  • Staff Management: Manage and supervise staff members, to include assigning and delegating tasks within the scope of each staff member’s duties; provide professional development and performance reviews of all T6B staff; and foster a team mentality. 
  • Communications: Serve as T6B’s spokesperson, and represent T6B along with board and staff to all external partners, including community members, public officials, and funders. 
  • Fiduciary Responsibilities: Successful candidates will understand and commit to their fiduciary responsibilities to the board of directors. 

Qualifications and Characteristics: 

  • Commitment and passion for T6B’s mission and culture of teamwork, service, and a bias toward action. 
  • Strong and effective leadership style with emphasis on collaboration and practical decisionmaking. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to inspire and motivate others. ● Aggressive self-starter with detail-oriented project and financial management skills and ability to balance multiple tasks. 
  • 5+ years of excellent leadership experience, with a track record in line with the requirements of this position 
  • Willingness to occasionally work atypical hours with events and commitments sometimes occurring on the weekends, evenings, specific holidays, and/or outside regular business hours. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills – persuasive and inspiring. ● The ideal candidate is as comfortable performing their various administrative duties as they are getting their hands dirty in the field.
  • T6B’s foundation is based upon veteran experiences and leadership. The ideal candidate is one with a military background, however, candidates who exceed all other qualifications will be considered with equal favor.

Hours, Compensation, Benefits: 

This is a full-time salaried position with a range of $90,000 – $110,000 and compensation package negotiable (overtime is exempt). T6B offers a: 

  • Flexible full-time schedule of 45 hours per week with unlimited paid leave, as required, so long as work and duties are completed. 
  • 401(k) retirement account with a full match of the first 2% of employee contributions. ● Health insurance package with 75% of the base plan covered by T6B. ● Supportive environment for professional development and educational growth. 

All work is based in Baltimore City. T6B keeps an office in the Open Works building in East Baltimore.
