Full Time Position

The Land Manager is responsible for management of our 232 acre property featuring a historic farmstead, natural trails and gardens.  This position reports to the Assistant Director and supervises a part time Caretaker, 1-2 part time Grounds Assistants and Summer Interns.  This position includes some weekends and evenings. 

Duties include:

  • Oversee and perform maintenance and plant installation in our Native Plant Garden.
  • Coordinate contractors, volunteer groups and staff to support grounds and historic buildings/structures maintenance. 
  • Communicate with donors and maintain records for purchased garden elements
  • Promote the Native Plant Garden and ensure it is listed as a destination garden by partnering with marketing staff and serving on committees related to tourism/gardens. 
  • Conduct tours of our Native Plant Garden, grounds and meadows, educating the public on the benefits of native plants and a variety of habitat areas. 
  • Oversee Community Garden operations, working closely with volunteer garden managers 
  • Monitor core area of property daily, and trails regularly. Ensure core area and nature play areas are safe and visitor ready on a daily basis.
  • Maintenance and installation of signage on property. 
  • Serve as staff point of contact for Grounds and Gardens committee. Set agendas, take minutes and keep records of all projects and reports.
  • Serve as point of contact for community and partner organizations such as Master Gardeners, Bee Club, Mountain Club, Blacksmith Guild, Bee City and other grounds focused groups. 
  • Coordinate mowing and ensure that rotational mowing is on schedule for meadows and grasslands. 
  • Oversee tree maintenance, monitor for health and hazards and coordinate with contractors when needed. 
  • Maintain and renew state and federal permits to include salvage and exhibition, beehives, animals, etc. 
  • Complete state and county reporting requirements for grounds issues. 
  • Schedule and lead volunteer work groups, Eagle/Gold Scout projects and corporate work groups. 
  • Assist with monitoring properties in the Conservancy’s easement program. 
  • Coordinate Conservancy’s resident animal care which includes terrapins, snakes, owls and goats.  Ensure they are fed and cared for and schedule veterinary appointments when needed. 
  • Assist in the planning, set up and event staffing of Conservancy organized events such as Earth Day, Wine in the Garden, etc. 

Requirements:

  • Associates degree or higher or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years experience in environmental field with focus on grounds maintenance
  • Knowledge of native plants and garden maintenance. 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and roles patiently and professionally
  • Proven communication skills and solid decision-making skills
  • Work effectively with a variety of staff, volunteers, clients and stakeholders.

Salary range $52,000-$55,000.  Benefits include a monthly contribution toward health insurance, dental insurance, long and short-term disability and life insurance are provided at no cost. Paid holidays and paid time off are provided along with an optional pre-tax IRA with an employer match of 3%.
