Program and Grounds Assistant (Part-Time Position)

The Howard County Conservancy is looking for a dynamic Program and Grounds Assistant to work as a part-time employee (20-25 hours per week).

Role Highlights:

  • General monitoring of property to ensure visitors have a safe experience that aligns with Conservancy policies.
  • Greeting visitors and providing brief tours and information on the organization.
  • Day of logistics assistance during programs and special events.
  • Grounds work such as clearing down branches, garden maintenance, trash pickup and animal care.
  • Light cleaning and maintenance of grounds and the building.
  • Occasional staffing of building during open hours.
  • Monitoring photographers to ensure they have a permit.
  • Emptying trash/compost in the building and in the outside composting toilet.
  • Administrative assistance with program and event needs such as providing walk throughs and tours and responding to inquiries for scheduled programs and contracted events.
  • Working programs and rentals as needed to include some weekends and late evenings.
  • Staffing evening outdoor astronomy programs.

This position works out of our Woodstock, MD location. The hourly rate is $16.00/hour, and as a part-time employee benefits are not included.

The Howard County Conservancy is a 34-year-old nonprofit nature center and land trust.  Our home base is the 232-acre Mt. Pleasant Farm in Woodstock, MD. We also operate a Nature Preschool at Belmont Manor and Historic Park in Elkridge, MD. Our grounds feature 5 miles of trails, native, pollinator and community gardens and the only historic farmstead open to the public in Howard County. We reach more than 30,000 people each year through our pre k-12th grade environmental education programs and a rich variety of programs for the community. To accomplish our work, the Conservancy employs full time staff, part time staff, seasonal staff, interns and a cadre of committed volunteers.
