READY Program: This program is open to Howard County residents ages 16 to 25. READY crews are involved in conservation restoration projects and receive green industry training and exposure. This is a full-time, paid, seasonal position. Learn more about the program here.
READY Crew Member

A READY Crew Member will be an essential part of the team in providing environmental services, including the installation and maintenance of landscaping projects such as conservation landscapes and rain gardens, performing maintenance of stream restoration projects, removing debris from waterways, and more.
Crew Members work in teams under the direction of their Crew Leader, Landscape Foreman and Operations Staff. Members will learn how to work as a team to successfully create and manage stormwater practices in the Bay region as well as be exposed to a variety of career opportunities in the environmental and stormwater industries through training and networking opportunities.
Through the READY program, Howard EcoWorks provides training in identifying native and invasive plants, construction techniques for environmental restoration projects, comprehensive tool training, and more. READY participants will also receive soft-skills training such as resume building and interview practice, as well as gaining exposure to different sectors of the environmental industry.
Responsibilities & Duties:

Work on a team to accomplish project objectives
-
Construction and maintenance of environmental landscaping practices such as rain gardens and conservation landscapes, tree planting, and more

Implement landscaping practices including planting, excavating, mulching, weeding, etc.

Properly use, store, and care for all equipment, tools, and materials
-
Participate in professional development and industry exposure training sessions
Qualifications & Requirements:
-
Must be between 16-25 years of age
-
Must be a Howard County resident
-
Able and willing to work in a variety of outdoor settings including forests and streams
-
Ability to work with a team as well as independently
-
Can physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 40 pounds repetitively throughout the day

Must have reliable transportation to the company office each day
-
May be asked to use a personal vehicle if applicable. Mileage is reimbursed at the then-applicable IRS rates
Preferred Qualifications:

Passion and/or interest in the outdoors

Previous experience working outdoors or in landscaping

Flexible with changes in day to day tasks
