While the changing leaves and cooling temperatures of Fall are delightful, our favorite part of the season is the annual migration of amphibians! On warm rainy nights in autumn, salamanders of all sizes trek across the forest to our many vernal pools to participate in courtship and breeding behaviors to ensure the next generation of amphibians. We are seeking volunteers to join our Fall Salamander Migration program beginning in late September and continuing to mid-late October to assist in escorting amphibians across local park roadways during peak migration period ensuring their survival.

Join this workshop to become fully trained to collect migration data and select shifts throughout the season. If weather conditions are favorable on a particular evening, those volunteers will be activated. Shifts begin in the early evening and sometimes can persist for several hours if a peak migration event is occuring. Questions? Contact Sanctuary Staff at 410-222-8006.
